TOPEKA – U.S Sen. Sam Brownback has picked state senator Jeff Colyer to be his running mate in the governor’s race. Like Brownback, Colyer is a conservative Republican. Colyer is a plastic surgeon from Johnson County. He has volunteered in the International Medical Corps for 20 years. Joan Heffington, a Wichita-area conservative and home-builder, is also seeking the Republican nomination for governor. They’ll likely face Democratic state senator Tom Holland of Baldwin City. Holland also faces opposition for the Democratic nomination from Herbert West, Paola, a man the state Democrats have said they don’t want to win.
