LAWRENCE — Kansas University chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little defended KU athletic director Lew Perkins but still announced a probe into the allegations levied against him in the Topeka Capital-Journal. In the story, the former KU director of sports medicine accused Perkins of taking thousands of dollars’ worth of exercise equipment in exchange for KU basketball tickets. She said KU knew about an attempt to blackmail Perkins concerning the exercise equipment before the story was publicized this week by the Capital-Journal. She said that Perkins has referred the matter to the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission. The probe would be finished in 10 days, she said.
