WASHINGTON — There are primaries in both parties in both Congressional races. In the 2nd District, first-term U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins of Topeka faces a challenge from the right, conservative state senator Dennis Pyle of Hiawatha. Three Democrats are seeking their party’s nomination. They are Cheryl Hudspeth, Girard; Thomas Koch, Leavenworth; and Sean Tevis, Olathe. Libertarian Robert Garrard of Edgerton is also a candidate for the seat. In the 3rd District, which covers the Kansas City area, there is a fierce battle to succeed retiring Democratic Congressman Dennis Moore. His wife, Stephene Moore, is battling Thomas Scherer of Prairie Billage for the Democratic nomination. Nine candidates are seeking the Republican nomination — Dan Gilyeat, Kansas City; Dave King and Jerry Malone, both of Leawood; Garry Klotz, Lenexa; Patricia Lightner, Olathe; Craig McPherson, John Timothy Rysavy, Jean Ann Uvodich and Kevin Yoder, all of Overland Park. Jasmin Talbot of Kansas Ccity is the Libertarian candidate.
