OTTAWA — Franklin County Emergency Management director Alan Radcliffe told county commissioners that the county is in line for a new trailer from the state’s regional Homeland Security group. The trailer is a portable radio tower that can be raised to 100 feet high in 30 minutes with an electrical crank. The electrical generator powers repeaters. The tower serves as an emergency communications backup, which is how the county would use it – and not spend money on existing backup systems, he said. With repeaters and electrical crank, the tower trailer costs about $80,000 and it would be free to the county. However, it would be available to other counties in the region in times of emergencies, he said.
