The Garnett Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Banquet was held Thursday at the Knights of Columbus. Three major awards were given out. The Business of Year award went to the Dutch Country Cafe. The Organization of the Year award went to the Garnett Senior Center, and the Volunteers of the Year to Troy and Donna Hurt. The Hurt’s are members of the American Legion Riders Chapter 156 and are well known in the Community for working with Veterans, riding for charity and standing in honor of all our fallen heroes.
Also, in Anderson County news, after many grueling rounds, Anderson County has a new spelling champion. She is Sophia Jones from Anderson County Junior High School. She and runner up, Tyson Benham from Greely Elementary, have qualified for the State Spelling Bee to be held in Wichita in Late March. Congratulations to the Hurt’s, Sophia and Tyson
