GARNETT — A cold winter heated up Garnett city coffers. The Anderson County Review reported that because Garnett residents paid higher city utility bills this winter, the city of Garnett saw higher city sales tax collections this spring. City manager Joyce Martin said the city saw a 52 percent increase in sales tax collections in May, when most of the money from winter utility payments showed up in state reports. Martin said she’ll keep an eye on the city’s cash reserves during this year. However, martin said she sees signs that the local economy is doing better and that property owners are starting to make improvements.
