CHANUTE — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will host a series of free informational meetings on the new lead-based paint regulations. The nearest meeting is Wednesday night from 6 to 8 at the state office complex in Chanute. KDHE secretary Roderick Bremby said the KDHE has received approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to administer the lead-based paint renovation, repair and painting rule in Kansas. The federal regulation applies to houses, apartments and child-occupied facilities built before 1978 and is designed to protect people from being exposed to lead dust and prevent lead poisoning.
