GARNETT – The Kansas Corn Growers Association is jumping to defend its long-time nemesis the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Indeed, the EPA is picking up support from groups it has often been at odds with, including the League of Kansas Municipalities, the Kansas Livestock Association and the Kansas Agribusiness Retailers Association. That’s because the Friends of the Kaw says it will sue the EPA for failing to enforce water quality standards regarding runoff into the Kansas River. The Corn Growers’ Sue Schulte said the farm groups are afraid that the EPA will get tougher on runoff into the Kaw because of the lawsuit.
