GARNETT — Dogs have been banned from Garnett city baseball and softball ballparks, the football stadium and the children’s tot-lot playground at North Lake Park. Garnett city commissioners approved the ordinance Tuesday night. City manager Joyce Martin said the new ordinance creates the restrictions at the sports fields and playground but loosens the leash on the city’s leash law. Previously, dogs in the North Lake Park had to be on a leash. Now dogs can be off the leash in other parts of the park if they are under the voice control of their owners. Martin said that allows owners to jog with their dogs or play Frisbee or other games. The new ordinance also requires owners to do the doggie-doo in the park.
