For the first time in 34 years, the incoming 6th graders in Ottawa will not be able to go to DARE Camp. The Ottawa Police Department has made the decision to cancel the camp this year, a decision that did not come lightly.
Police Chief, Adam Weingartner, says DARE Camp is as important to the staff as it is to students who completed the DARE curriculum. He says the staff knows in their hearts this is the right decision. He adds that they look forward to making the 35th DARE Camp the best yet.
The Ottawa Police Foundation extends their sincere thanks to all DARE Camp Supporters who help fund the Camp. Staff is working on an alternate event for DARE students, but won’t know for several months if it will happen.
