Over the weekend, the CDC came out with a statement recommending that people wear masks when they are out in public areas, such as grocery stores. This comes after studies have revealed that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity; for example, speaking, coughing, or sneezing–even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. Ottawa City Manager, Richard Nienstedt, says the masks have purpose:
These masks do not have to be surgical masks. Cloth masks made at home will do the job. The Center for Disease Control emphasized that it is important to maintain six feet of Social Distancing to slow the spread of the virus.
