We know about the restrictions taking place in our area due to the COVID 19 crisis, but what about other countries? There are a lot of former Ottawans living in areas around the world that have been hit hard the the coronavirus. JoDee Anderson grew up in Ottawa in the late 70’s and 80’s and now teaches English Language and Literature at the University of Santiago in Lugo, Spain. She was first alerted to COVID 19 when some of her Chinese students returned from semester break and staff got word that some may be bringing in a virus. It spread quickly and Spain went on lockdown on March 15th. While we are on “Stay At Home Orders”, Spain is on a much more restrictive order. JoDee Explains who can leave the house:
She expects things to get even more restrictive in the near future, as the Spanish Government works to contain the virus. There are over 40 thousand cases in Madrid alone, and over 140 thousand cases in Spain. Anderson says that might be small compared to the United States number of 380 thousand, but, we have six times more people than Spain.
