A popular place for people to park their cars and watch the sunset or sunrise has been closed. A road that crosses the Clinton Lake dam just West of Lawrence was closed as a result of what authorities are calling unsafe gatherings during the stay at home order in Kansas. East 900 road has been closed until further notice.
The area is a popular gathering spot and traffic has increased dramatically since the stay at home order went into effect. While exercise and fresh air are encouraged, Corps of Engineers officials said, large gatherings such as those that have been taking place at the south end of the dam result in unsafe conditions not only for those visitors gathering there but also for those traveling across the dam.
The decision was made by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in conjunction with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office.
