You may have noticed the absence of a news publication around the county recently. The owners of the Anderson County Community news published its last edition on March 31st. Owners Vern Brown and Barbara Thompson have announced their retirement and since the market is limited for resale of newspapers, the publication also has been retired. It started as a newsletter in 1997, under the name the Anderson County Advocate. Brown and Thompson bought it in 2001 and expanded it to print twice a week. Three years ago, the paper went from a partial paid subscriber format to free, mailed to rural routes and available in free racks in area towns. In a statement from the owners, they say that their advancing age and challenges brought on by the corona virus helped in their decision to retire. They added that they have worked with some great people dedicated to the community.
