OTTAWA — A Williamsburg couple told Franklin County commissioners Wednesday that they’re being harassed by the county weed department because they have sericea lespedeza on their land. Kansas has declared sericea lespedeza as a noxious weed. The Kansas State Extension says cattle won’t eat sericea and the plant drives out native grasses. Henry and Sue Snodgrass said if the plant is something the state and county want to get rid of, they should pay for eradication and not make landowners do it. They said sericea spread from infected grass seed.
