OSAWATOMIE — Why read about history when you can be part of history? Historical re-enactors Joyce Thierer and Ann Birney will be in Osawatomie next week for the Telling History workshops. Thierer is best known for her portrayal of Calamity Jane and Birney is known for her portrayal of Amelia Earhart. There will be workshops for fourth- through eighth-grade school students and for high school students and adults. They’ll learn to research and portray historical figures. John Brown Historical Site’s Grady Atwater told the Osawatomie Journal that those who take part will also be invited to perform at the Freedom Festival and at Talking Tombstones later in the year in Osawatomie. The workshops are free and open to anyone.
