GARNETT — The state has seized a Garnett antique business for failure to pay sales taxes. The Kansas Department of Revenue seized the business assets of Garnett Antiques & Etc., on the north side of the square, and the personal assets of owner Donna Snavely of Garnett. The Department of Revenue said Snavely owes more than $53,000 in delinquent retail sales taxes over a three-year period. Because the business was a consignment shop with 30 or more leased spaces, vendors will be able to retrieve
their items from the store, state officials said. The seized assets of the business will be sold at public auction. Although the state has filed tax warrants against other Garnett businesses that owe delinquent retail sales taxes and withholding taxes, the antique store is the first in several years to have been seized in Garnett.
