WASHINGTON — President Obama has designated several Kansas counties including Franklin, Miami and Osage counties as a disaster area. The Federal Emergency Management Agency said today that the designation means federal aid has been made available to help pay for local governments’ efforts to deal with severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes occurring between June 7 to July 21. Michael Scott has been named as the federal coordinator for federal recovery operations in the area covered by the designation. Scott said additional designations may be made later if requested by the State and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
