The Midway Drive In, in Miami County, has been purchased and the couple who bought it is eager to get it open again. Heather and Michael Wood remember a family night out at the Drive-In. They loved it so much, they decided to but the Midway after it closed recently. They say they wanted to have something to call their own and to support other local businesses. Heather says they realize they have a lot of work to do and would like to make some improvements and open the facility to more than just movies. things like swap meets, car shows, weddings and much more. However, that will require a change in the zoning and they are working with the the Miami County Planning Department to come up with a plan they hope to present to them in November.
They said they plan to keep the classic drive-In experience, but the movies might change a bit, as the movies may not be the new releases.
The Midway was updated to digital technology in 2013 thanks to a fundraiser called “Save the Midway”. The Woods are hoping for a ribbon cutting next Spring, however, they may try to open earlier, depending on demand.
