The Ottawa USD 290 School District is preparing to shift out of the Half-Day Hybrid Model they opened school in and move the Full Day In Person Learning at all schools. Superintendent Dr. Rayan Cobbs, in a letter to patrons yesterday, says they have approval from County Health Officials to reopen full time. Cobbs says the first two and a half weeks shows that the District can keep the students safe, keep the buildings clean transport the students safely and, make sure they are being fed, as well as the most important facet — learning.

The plan is to begin with the elementary students, then after a couple weeks, include the middle school, grades 6 through 8. Then, after a period of review, to make sure the plan maintains a safe environment, add the high school students. Cobbs says they hope to have the entire district returned to Full Day In Person Learning by the beginning of the second quarter, on November 9th. He says a more specific plan will be presented at the School Board Meeting Monday night.

Dr. Cobbs says students will still be required to wear masks. Disinfecting procedures will continue, as will temperature screenings and hand sanitation practices will be in place. Specific start dates will be presented at Monday’s School Board Meeting.
