WASHINGTON — An Iowa egg producer is expanding its recall of eggs, federal regulators said. Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa, announced its first recall of more than 228 million eggs this weekend after some of the eggs were linked to an outbreak of salmonella poisoning. Like the first batch of eggs, the expanded recall covers eggs sent to wholesalers, distribution centers and foodservice companies and shipped across the nation. They could be six-egg, dozen and 18-egg cartons. Affected brand names include Farm Fresh, Albertsons, James Farms, Glenview and Mountain Dairy. Including the new recall batch, look for the code stamped on the end of the egg carton or printed on the case label. Look for plant numbers P-1720 and P-1942. Then look for the three-number Julian dates between 136 and 229 immediately behind the plant numbers. Also look for plant numbers P-1026, P-1413 and P-1946, followed by the three-number Julian dates between 136 to 225. Other eggs aren’t affected. If you think you have some of the eggs, don’t eat them. Return them to the store where you bought them for a full refund. You can also check the Web site www.eggsafety.org.
