Two separate accidents in Anderson County on Saturday left several people in the hospital and one man dead.

Saturday morning about 9:30, a vehicle driven by Todd Vogts of Olpe was eastbound on 1400 Road and failed to yield to a vehicle driven by Ronald Jost of Olathe, at the intersection of Colorado Road, about three miles west of Westphalia. Vogts was seriously injured in the crash and a passenger in his vehicle, 52 year old Roy Vogts, of Olpe died in the crash. Todd was transported to Anderson County Hospital, as were Jost and his passenger, 52 year old Terri Jost.

A second accident a couple hours later, seriously injured two people. A vehicle driven by 22 year old Shantae Nicole-Davis, of Independence was northbound on US 169 and attempted to turn onto Maryland Road and went into the ditch, struck a sign, came back onto Maryland Road and struck a vehicle driven by 19 year old Kate Gere of Baldwin, head on. Both Nicolas-Davis and a passenger in her vehicle, 30 year old Sierra Negrete-Boyd, were taken to Anderson County Hospital with serious injuries. Gere was not injured.

Anderson County Emergency Fire and Management says the crews were pushed this weekend. Fire units from Kincaid, Colony, Welda, and Garnett responded to a wind driven structure fire that threatened other structures and at about the same time, a large load of hay caught fire on the highway. Crews were able to keep damage to a minimum.
