A fire Saturday afternoon in Ottawa displaced two families. The Ottawa Fire Department responded to a call just after 3:30 to 1332 South Olive for a structure fire. Heavy smoke in the area led crews to the scene where they discovered the garage area of the north duplex was fully engulfed in flame. Fortunately, all the occupants of both homes were able to get out safely with no injuries. Fire crews went to work quickly and were able to extinguish the main body of the fire within minutes. However, heavy fire, heat and smoke damage was throughout the north side duplex. The south side of the building, 1336 South Olive, received smoke and water damage. It was also observed that two pets, a dog and a cat, were brought out of the buildings safely. The fire is still under investigation and Fire Chief, Jeff Mathias, says the damage assessment is not complete at this time.
