You can’t just waltz into Kansas and hunt our turkeys. That’s the message from a Federal Judge to four men from Mississippi who are up on Federal Charges of illegally hunting turkey in Kansas, without a license and transporting them back across state lines. They took over 25 turkeys and left with trophy spurs and beards of the illegally killed birds. The limit in Kansas is one bird, with a turkey permit and a State Hunting License. All four pleaded guilty to Federal Charges of killing in excess of the legal limit of Kansas wild turkeys across State lines to Mississippi. Prosecutors say the crimes occured in 2017 and 2018. Under the Federal Lacey Act, it is unlawful for any person to transport across state lines any wildlife taken in violation of state law. Sentencing is scheduled for February 9th.
