A fraud scam involving the Kansas Department of Labor is being distributed. Many people in Ottawa and all around Kansas, have received an email or text message stating that the Department of Labor noticed an error on your unemployment claim. They ask you to click on a ling to review the claim. Or, it may be in the form of a questionnaire from the Department of Labor indicating that by filling out the survey, they can better serve you. DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINKS! It is a scam.
The Labor Department says they will never ask you for your Social Security number over a test message or email. The Agency is working with law enforcement and is investigating these fraudulent texts. Kansas, along with every other state, is seeing a spike in identity theft related to unemployment claims.
