PAOLA — A Garnett man doesn’t consider himself a hero. His friends, family and co-workers disagree. That also includes the woman that Bill Palmer pulled out of a burning car and burning house. Palmer works for Lybarger Oil, Garnett, and was working in Paola recently. The Anderson County Review reported that while he was working, Palmer saw a SUV veer off a road and roar through a wooden fence and into a field. When he ran to where he saw smoke, he saw that the SUV had smashed into a house. Both the car and house were on fire. When he heard driver Susan Rosner, 42, Paola cry out, he charged into the smoke and dragged her out of the vehicle and house. No one else was in the house or vehicle. The experience has strengthened his faith
in God, Palmer said. He said he’s convinced God put him at the scene for a reason.
