GARNETT — The Garnett Industrial Airport has received a state aviation grant. The money from the Kansas Department of Transportation will be used to pay to replace and relocate the airport’s fuel system. City manager Joyce Martin said that because of improvements at the airport, the fuel pumps had to be moved. The grant was one of 25 airport grants awarded across the state Wednesday as part of the unveiling of a state aviation study. The study says airports in Kansas are a major engine for economic development. The state’s eight commercial and 132 general aviation airports generate more than 47,000 jobs and produce $10.4 billion in economic activity, the study says. Lt. Gov. Troy Findley said that airports play a critical role in the Kansas economy.
