BURLINGTON — The Coffey County Sheriff’s Department is offering 45 horses for adoption. Sheriff Randy Rogers said the horses were seized from Winding Roads Equine Rescue and Retirement near Waverly. Rogers said he has placed 30 horses with new owners but a judge has given him 21 days to place the rest. Karen Everhart, owner of Horse Calls and executive director of Rainbow Meadows Equine Rescue and Retirement, Inc., is in charge of overseeing the placements. Anyone wanting the horses will have to submit an application and have their facilities inspected before they get horses, Rogers said. For information on applying, contact Everhart at (316) 648-5082 or e-mail [email protected]. Winding Roads manager Kristin Chambers faces charges in connection with the condition of the horses at her farm.
