The past several months have been like to other in recent memory. The COVID pandemic has put some unusual stressors on everyone, but Mike Burns, at Auburn Pharmacy, says relief is on the way. He says the soon-to-be-released COVID 19 vaccine is not a cure, but, like all vaccines, it prepares the body to fight the disease if and when, you have an exposure.
Burns believes people should be very confident in the vaccine and says you should be fighting to get to the front of the line for it.
The vaccine works by giving instruction to the cells to make harmless things called “spike proteins”. Spike proteins are identical to a protein found on the surface of the virus that causes COVID 19. Burns says different people do respond differently to vaccines. Some produce a high level of antibodies, meaning greater protection. While others, especially those with other conditions, may have a limited response with a lower level of resistance. However, nearly all populations are recommended to get vaccinated. Burns says Auburn Pharmacy has been preparing to administer vaccinations for several months.
