Yesterday was a big day for City Manager, Richard Nienstedt and the Ottawa Library. Nienstedt delivered 100 laptop computers to the Library, as well as 100 to ECKAN. They were purchased with funds from the Broadband Partnership Adoption Grant that was awarded to the City of Ottawa from the Kansas Department of Commerce.
ECKAN and the library will be loaning out the laptops to members of the community to increase access to broadband in the area. The goal of the Grant is to ensure all citizens are able to utilize high speed broadband regardless of economic status. The City of Ottawa has created protected WIFI Networks in certain areas of town which the laptops will be able to access. The program will allow participants to access a laptop and high speed broadband at no cost to them.
