A little bit of Anderson County Sports News for you. COVID 19 left a 2009 Crest Alumni to coach and win the Fort Hays State Tiger Basketball team against the K-State Wildcats at the teams December 8th matchup. Hays Assistant Coach and former Crest Lancer, Todd Johnston found himself inn a strange, but not unheard of predicament, in the recent COVID era. His Head Coach, Mark Johnson, tested positive for COVID 19 which also put Associate head Coach Jeremy Brown in quarantine. That put the 29 year old, former southeast Kansas Elite 8 man football defensive back, first teamer in charge of the Tigers in the trip to Manhattan. The Tigers, with two top players benched due to injuries, took an early lead an stayed on top throughout to notch a 81-68 win. It was the first win against K-State for the Tigers since 1938.

Johnston was one of Crest’s top athletes in the early 2000’s, winning honors in football, basketball and track for the Lancers. He played college basketball at Cloud County Community and averaged 10 points per game in his senior year, after transferring to Baker University. This is his second year at Fort Hays State.
