TOPEKA — Safe Kids Kansas notes that this is National Farm Safety and Health Week. Safe Kids’ Cherie Sage said rural kids are more exposed to hazards on the farm. Each year about 70 children in the U.S. are killed farm accidents, she said. Kids need to be supervised while doing farm work and should be given work appropriate for their age and maturity, she said. Safe Kids Kansas recommends that children under 16 never drive or ride ATVs, including youth-sized ATVs, snowmobiles, mowers, tractors and minibikes.
