IOLA — Jerry Hughes, 55, Waverly, was killed in a one-vehicle accident south of Iola Wednesday morning. The Kansas Highway Patrol said Hughes was driving south on U.S. 169 when his car ran off the road, went through two fences and two fields and hit a tree. Troopers said he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
