GARNETT — The Anderson County Review reported that federal inspectors recently made a surprise visit to Garnett Elementary Center. Someone filed a handicap-accessibility complaint against the school this summer. The Review reported two inspectors from the civil rights division of the U.S Department of Education inspected the school. School Supt. Don Blome told the Review that the inspection ended when the inspectors learned that the Anderson County school board has called a bond election in November on building a new school to replace GEC. Blome told the Review that inspectors didn’t issue any formal findings but he said it’s clear that GEC probably wouldn’t have passed the inspection.
