Tomorrow, a bicycle ride by law enforcement officers, called “Ride For The Fallen”, will remember fallen officers. Along the way, several stops will be made as the officers make their way to the Law Enforcement Memorial in Topeka. Each stop will honor an officer killed in the line of duty. Franklin County Deputy, Sam Smith, will be among those honored. Sheriff Jeff Richards explains:
Richards says the Dedication will be extra special for him, as his brother, an officer in the Kansas City area, will be making the presentation. Deputy Samuel Smith was killed in an automobile accident on California Road, June 23rd, 2010, while responding to a domestic disturbance call. Deputy Smith had served with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for only nine months.
