OTTAWA — Third graders from across the county got the straight poop on farm life Tuesday. During the annual Day at the Farm held at the Sylvester Farm, southwest of ottawa, presenters showed them farm animals, farm equipment and some of the things produced by Kansas farms. For most third graders, the day on the farm is all about the animals. Many said they enjoy seeing – and petting – the animals. Central Heights junior Cheyenne Mahan, who talked to the kids about horses, said it’s the first time that many kids see farm animals. Many presenters at the day said it’s important to help the youngsters – and their families – connect the dots between their food and their table and give them an appreciation of one of the state’s most important economic sectors.
