Officials on the Anderson County COVID Response Committee estimate about half of Anderson County has immunity to COVID 19 at this point, either through vaccination or having recovered from the virus. But, the push is still on to vaccinate, even the recoverees, to help protect against virus variants.

According to officials, there is plenty of vaccine, but demand has dropped off dramatically in recent weeks. About 830 residents of the County contracted the disease and recovered, so are immune for a short period of time. Most agree that those people should go ahead and be vaccinated because it would vastly increase their protection from variants. Also, there is no way to come up with an exact number of people who have immunity, because many never reported their illness to the County, believing they couldn’t miss work or other plans. If you need, or want ,the vaccination, call the Health Department or Auburn’s to set up an appointment. The shots are offered free of charge.
