WOLF CREEK — The Wolf Creek nuclear power plant at Burlington remains off-line today but the company says the plant should begin powering up sometime this week. The plant was shut down last week after a leak was found in a water pipe between the plant’s cooling-water lake and the plant. The company said the hole in the pipe was patched but crews were checking other parts of the pipe. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said the leak was confirmed by ground radar and by excavation. Because the leak couldn’t be repaired within 72 hours, the plant was shut down, the NRC said. The company said there was no radiation leak. The plant generates 1,200 megawatts of electricity, enough to power about 800,000 homes.
