A deputy with the Miami County Sheriff’s office has completed Drug Recognition Expert Certification. Deputy Austin Jones has been in training to achieve the certification. He had to complete a five hour test and complete 13 recognition tests on persons under the influence of drugs. He is now one of only 100 Drug Recognition Experts in the state of Kansas. The Sheriff’s office says they have focused on obtaining quality training, certifications and equipment to combat drug use, possession, distribution and DUI’s in Miami County.
Deputy Jones’ Certification, in addition to the K-9 unit and several other drug related trainings that other deputies are receiving, is an example of their continued commitment to the safety of their citizens and those visiting and traveling through the county.
