Tuesday evening November 29th, the Ottawa Police got a report of a juvenile that may have been in possession of a firearm after school hours on the Ottawa High School Campus. The investigation began immediately and as a precaution, uniformed and plain clothes officers were assigned near the high school and middle school yesterday morning.

At 7:45 yesterday morning, officers took an 14-year-old Ottawa male into custody near his home in the 800 block of Olive Street after a search warrant was executed on the residence. A BB gun, that was a replica of a handgun, was recovered that the juvenile possessed on the school campus yesterday. The juvenile was transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center and then to the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center. Once completed, the investigation will be sent to the Franklin County Attorney’s Office for potential charges.

Ottawa Police Chief, Adam Weingartner says his department and school officials quickly identified persons involved. He says his staff worked quickly to bring the case to a swift and safe resolution.
