USDA Historical Expert, Ann Effland, says it’s actually fairly new and grew out of the age old tradition of writing Christmas letters and the first was considered politically incorrect.
With technology and the ability to send e-mails,we have been spending less on buying and mailing cards until this year. Surveys show this year there was actually a 10% increase in the purchase of Christmas cards.
