OTTAWA — Ottawa Mayor Blake Jorgensen said that given the state’s budget problems and the national economy, his term will be interesting. But the city shouldn’t dig in and wait out rough times, he said. Jorgensen likened his task as mayor to a farmer using slack times to get ready for better times. The farmer spends his summer working on his combine to be sure he’s ready for the harvest. Jorgensen was elected mayor by his fellow commissioners Wednesday night. Commissioner Sara Humm was elected mayor pro-tem.
She’ll serve as mayor during those times Jorgensen can’t serve as mayor. Commissioners Gene Ramsey, Rocky Fleer and Linda Reed, who are incumbents and were re-elected, were also sworn in last night. As the top two vote-getters, Ramsey and Reed will serve four-year terms. Fleer has a two-year term.
