GARNETT — A Garnett area native recently designed the 50th anniversary logo for the Kansas City Chiefs. Commercial artist Gerald Hirt grew up in Harris. Hirt said Chiefs officials noticed his art while he working for a Kansas City commercial marketing company. Since then, the Chiefs have hired him to design their tickets and media guide. He’s been designing their artwork since. Hirt’s 50th anniversary design includes an outline of the state of Texas. The Chiefs were originally the American Football League team Dallas Texans. They moved to Kansas City in 1963 and were named after Mayor H. Roe Bartle, who was nicknamed “Chief.” Hirt says his design will be on Chief uniforms this season.
