MANHATTAN — Larry Moeder, a director of student financial assistance at Kansas State said the recession is making it harder for families to afford college. Families are losing jobs and income, making it impossible to send their children to college, he said. U.S. secretary of education Arne Duncan unveiled plans today to simplify the application process for federal student aid. The Obama Administration hopes this change will ease the burden on 16 million students and families a year applying for aid. Moeder said the new plans could also help him do his job more effectively.
