GARNETT — Anderson County coroner Don Nungesser said the recent death of a 42-year-old Harris man wasn’t because of heat. A preliminary autopsy report indicates that the death of Matthew Travers during a heat wave and power outage earlier this month wasn’t a result of heat, Nungesser told the Anderson County Review. Prior to the autopsy report, Nungesser had thought heat might have been a factor in Travers’ death and many locals have blamed the heat for his death. Travers had diabetes but the preliminary autopsy wasn’t definite if that was the cause of death, he said. More lab tests are being done. However, Nungesser said that people should still protect themselves during times of high heat. He said He says people should be aware of heat symptoms and drink plenty of fluid and limit their exposure to the sun and heat.
