OTTAWA — Bear and patrolman has a new definition in Ottawa. The Ottawa Police Department has received a supply of teddy bears called Comfort Bears from State Farm Insurance. Police Chief Dennis Butler said his officers will give Comfort Bears to children who experience trauma due to events in which the police become involved. He said the gift was made to the new Ottawa Police Foundation, which donated the bears to the Ottawa Police Department. He said patrol cars are stocked with the Comfort Bears for police officers to give to children as needed.
