GARNETT — A year after the racing accident that left Garnett city commissioner Mike Norman paralyzed from the waist down, Norman said he’s still busy. He told the Anderson County Review that his paralysis is just another chapter in his life. Norman was injured last year when his racing kart spun out and hit a pole at Lake Garnett. The impact was strong enough to break his spine. Surgery reattached it so that he could sit upright. In two months, Norman attended his first commission meeting in person, and he hasn’t slowed down since. He said that now he’s not working full-time, he gets volunteered for a lot of committees. Norman now works part-time at Balanced Healthcare. He and his wife Helen also own Dairy Queen in Garnett. Norman said he’s been surprised how hard it has been to get around in a wheelchair. However, Norman said he may try to race karts again.
