RANTOUL — A Rantoul man will be named Forest Stewardship Tree Farmer of the Year during the 15th annual Fall Forestry Field Day Thursday. Wilford Sinclair has improved 46 acres of forest land on his Rantoul tree farm and planted 10 acres to oak and black walnut. He has also hosted many workshops and field days to promote good forestry.
The Fall Forestry Field Day will be Thursday from 9 to 3:30 at the 1,300-acre Danny Barrow Trading Company Ranch west of Valley Falls.The forestry day will be held in the Delaware River Valley to help encourage better water quality through use of trees in the Delaware watershed, said Lake region RC&D forester Ryan Neises. The river feeds Lake Perry which has had severe water quality and silting problems. There will be a registration fee to cover costs. Check the Web site at www.kansasforests.org. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Jefferson County Fair Building in Valley Falls.
