OTTAWA — This year’s Veterans Day weekend will begin with the red, white and blue waves of flags of the Healing Fields in Forest Park at 6 p.m. Friday. Ottawa city manager Richard Nienstedt will offer the city’s Veterans Day proclamation and will guest speaker for Friday’s ceremony, said Veterans Day organizer Roy Dunn. About 600 American flags will be installed by Scouts and veterans for the Healing Fields to honor veterans, he said. If you’ve bought a flag from previous years, you’re welcome to bring the flag back for this year’s Healing Fields, he said. Activities include a parade down Main Street beginning at 10:45 a.m. Saturday morning and historic re-enactments and demonstrations at Forest Park Saturday afternoon.
