TOPEKA — An Osage County water district and some area cities will receive state grants for their water or sewer systems. The Kansas Department of Commerce awarded nearly $7 million in Community Development Block grants to 18 counties and cities. Osage County Rural Water District #6 will receive $450,000 and match with $498,000 of its own money. The district will install nearly 18 miles of new water to serve 35 new customers. The water district is between Lyndon, Melvern and Quenemo. Burlingame will receive a half-million for improvements to its sewer system. The city and other sources will contribute $890,000. Scranton will receive a half-million to upgrade more than eight miles of sewer line and repair 134 manholes. Other sources will provide $3 million in matching funds. Parker will receive a little more than $390,000 for work on its sewer system and lagoons. Other sources will provide $390,000 as a match.
